Second Biennial SEED Award: Call for Proposals

Colleagues,
The Supporting Entrepreneurs for Environment and Development (Seed)
Initiative is now accepting applications for its biennial award, a
global competition designed to publicly recognize and support five of
the most worthy, nascent partnerships that promote economic growth,
social development and environmental stewardship. Winners will receive
targeted support services to help their initiative scale up.
Applications are due to the Seed Secretariat on October 15, 2006.
Winners will be announced in May 2007 in New York.

An applicant’s initiative must meet the following criteria:
·Involve at least three partner organizations from different stakeholder
groups such as small, medium or large businesses; community-based
organizations; local or international NGOs: labor unions: women’s
groups; indigenous peoples organizations; research institutions; public
authorities; international agencies.

·Relate to the three pillars of sustainable development: environmental,
social, and economic in an integrated manner.

·Display entrepreneurship in its broadest sense, and is driven by local
actors.

·Help to demonstrate innovative ways of doing business through
partnerships – business as unusual – and has the potential to serve as
inspiration to others, and or

·Has a draft business plan and has partners that have already agreed in
principle to work together.

The Amazon Alliance for Indigenous and Traditional Peoples of the Amazon
Basin is an initiative born out of the partnership between indigenous and
traditional peoples of the Amazon and groups and individuals who share their
concerns for the future of the Amazon and its peoples. There are over eighty
non-governmental organizations from the North and South active in the
Alliance. The Amazon Alliance works to defend the rights, territories, and
environment of indigenous and traditional peoples of the Amazon Basin.
